How Often Do You Struggle To Express Your Deepest Gratitude to the Universe?
I need to admit that I love it, no matter how counterintuitive it may sound!
“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgiving, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” — Proverb
“Gratitude is associated with a personal benefit that was not intentionally sought after, deserved, or earned but rather because of the good intentions of another person” — Emmons & McCullough, 2004
I had no intention of writing today whatsoever. I need to prepare for an important certification and am already too late. Nonetheless, today’s story is too good to wait and not to be shared with the world!
I went to my favorite coworking space. A woman greeted the cashier warmly. “Oh, hi madam! Sorry I didn’t see you!”
“No kidding! How could you miss seeing me with this shape?”, was her answer, accompanied by a silly tone and a pure smirk!
“My bad! It’s still too early, you know!”
At this point, being armed with confidence about her inner security, I had to intervene and continue the fun morning party, “can you let her feel good about herself?”
Her answer came shortly: “Oh, don’t you worry! I’m totally at peace when it comes to my shape!”
“Oh boy, I so know! I’d have never dared tease you if I wasn’t 100% sure about it! He woke up too early, and is a bit distracted to understand your silliness!”
“Yes! This place is a second home to me! My office is just in front of it!”
“How convenient!” while smiling friendly.
It was my turn to order. I wanted a brunch formula with orange juice. I was informed orange was in shortage, sadly enough! I expressed my disappointment and went for lemon instead.
I had to wait a bit for the rest of the order. Meanwhile, the lady left and came back. When I was ready to go upstairs, she called me. I went in her direction with the wonder of my 5-year-old inner child.
She handed me a glass of orange juice. I was confused. She said, “it’s for you!” That’s when I realized she was paying attention to my conversation with the customer service guy, ordered it somewhere else, and returned with the gift!
I felt overwhelmed with the free act of kindness! I mean, come on, how sweet is this! What a gem of heart this fabulous lady has!
I hugged her warmly in the middle of my overwhelm. I’m not even sure about the words that came out of my mouth! All that I know is that my heart was about to explode out of gratitude!
I walked away but then had to stop again. My heart was dancing to the song of genuine and limitless love it was singing! I turned to look for her again with torn eyes. She happened to be in my visual field.
I sent her a kiss, and my eyes were saying a million thanks. She drew a heart with her hands. She made my day!
People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel. — Maya Angelou
